Residential Collection Information
In the Launceston municipality:
- Garbage is collected weekly
- Recycling is collected fortnightly

Special Collection Services
The City of Launceston offers the following special collection services:
- An annual hard waste collection, registration is required and typically begins in December for a March/April collection
- A fluoro tubes and bulbs collection in Customer Service (Town Hall, St John Street, Launceston) – bulbs and tubes brought in for recycling must be whole and securely wrapped
- City of Launceston has a Recycle Hub located at the Customer Service Centre (Town Hall, St John St, Launceston). Items suitable for dropping at the Recycle Hub are: Mobile Phones, Household batteries (no car batteries), Spectacles, Small e-waste, Aluminium coffee pods, CD’s and dvd’s, Oral care products (toothbrushes, toothpaste tubes & floss containers), X-ray’s, Bread tags and printer and toner cartridges.
Options for other materials
- Gently used books, books on tape, music CDs and DVDs can be donated to the Launceston Library for reuse, resale or recycling
- Unwanted family papers, memorabilia and photographs can be donated to the Launceston Library for storage for future research purposes
Recycling Education
The Northern Tasmanian Waste Management Group has two Recycling Education Officers who visit schools, residents, community groups and businesses to provide advice and education about recycling, including in the Launceston municipal area.
